Cancellation of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne’s Ninth Symphony at the Vaudoise Aréna

The original dates for The Ninth Symphony, set for June 2020, then postponed to June 23 to 27, 2021 at the Vaudoise Aréna, aimed to bring together the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, The Tokyo Ballet, the Sinfonietta de Lausanne and the Chœur Pro Arte Lausanne. Regrettably, these performances can no longer be held.

The dance company, which produces the event, is unable to guarantee optimal safety conditions for the public, the artists, the collaborators and the partners at this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. The BBL has long hoped for a positive development of the situation but was unfortunately forced to cancel all the performances due to the scale of the event.

While looking forward to better days, the BBL is committed to refunding all the tickets that were purchased and would like to thank all those who would be willing to forego the refund to express their solidarity given the exceptional events we are all facing. Please refer to the terms and conditions below for more information.

The BBL would also like to thank its public, partners, sponsors, as well as all those who continue to trust and support the BBL at all times.

The performances of The Ninth Symphony, choreographed by Maurice Béjart to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, originally scheduled for June 2020 at the Vaudoise Aréna in Lausanne-Malley, then postponed due to the measures taken to address the COVID-19 epidemic, will take place from June 23 to 27, 2021 at the same venue.

Since the Béjart Ballet Lausanne and its partner institutions – the Tokyo Ballet, the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, the Chœur Pro Arte Lausanne and the soloists – announced the postponement of Maurice Béjart‘s Ninth Symphony, they have worked hard together to coordinate their respective schedules. The five performances of the danced concert, originally scheduled from June 12 to 17, 2020 at the Vaudoise Aréna in Lausanne-Malley, have been rescheduled at the same venue from June 23 to 27, 2021.

This show couldn’t be held in 2020 due to the government’s measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, so the two dance companies, the orchestra and the choir will meet again in 2021. The 250 artists of all origins will perform together this artistic manifesto for a united humanity.

“The Ninth Symphony is not only a ballet but a profound human involvement in a work that belongs to all humanity and that is not just performed and sung here, but danced.” – Maurice Béjart

Tickets that have already been purchased remain valid, simply present them at the entrance of the Vaudoise Arena on the rescheduled date:

The activities of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne have been on hold since March 16, and the company would like to thank the public for its precious support and the many messages it received. We also want to thank our partners and patrons for their trust, loyalty and understanding during these sensitive times.

Duration of the show: approximately 90 minutes

*Beware of the grey ticketing market: unofficial resellers sell overpriced tickets. Béjart Ballet Lausanne cannot be held responsible for any purchase of show tickets outside the official ticket offices (ticketcorner.ch, Coop City and Manor).
