The B\u00e9jart Ballet Lausanne receives a standing ovation at the Op\u00e9ra de Lausanne<\/h2>\n

The BBL opened its new season with a great deal of emotion and applauses at the Op\u00e9ra de Lausanne. During a series of eight shows held from October 2 to 11, more than 4,000 people watched the private dance company perform for the first time since March.<\/h4>\n

For this reunion, the BBL premiered Basso Continuum<\/em><\/a> by Gil Roman<\/a> and 7 danses grecques<\/em><\/a> by Maurice B\u00e9jart. The Artistic Director’s creation explores the brightness of black and chiaroscuro, drawing inspiration from the work of Pierre Soulages. He also collaborated with Lausanne-based musician Richard Dubugnon<\/a> who played his compositions on the double bass on stage, surrounded by the BBL dancers. In the second part of the show, spectators travelled to Greece through Mikis Theodorakis’ scores and Maurice B\u00e9jart’s choreography, prepared with mathematical rigor.<\/p>\n

“7 danses grecques<\/em> is a ballet of light and the Mediterranean that expresses a lot of pleasure and joy. We must provide people with enjoyment after the difficult times we have just gone through. (…) Basso Continuum<\/em> works on these notions of light, but in relation to darkness. It takes an intimate form with only eight dancers on stage. The whole company is involved in 7 danses grecques<\/em>. My goal as a choreographer is to make all my dancers happy and to get them on stage, especially in the current situation.” – Gil Roman<\/p>\n
