Gil Roman&#8217;s company will next perform on Saturday, September 25, in the middle of an orchard at the Fondation Opaline in Bex&#8230; before flying to Japan!<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Musical and artistic rigor were combined with formal purity to achieve the desired result. Last weekend, more than a thousand spectators watched &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/spectacle\/bbl-meets-pierre-henry-opera-lausanne2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A la rencontre de Pierre Henry<\/a>&#8220;, an original program by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/company\/gil-roman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gil Roman<\/a>, the company&#8217;s Artistic Director, and his dancers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opera-lausanne.ch\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Opera de Lausanne<\/a>. The B\u00e9jart Ballet Lausanne performed this daring contemporary program three times, paying tribute to the composer of \u201cmusique concrete\u201c and its creator, Pierre Schaeffer. . The company&#8217;s next show will be on Saturday 25 in the orchards of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lafondationopaline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Opaline Foundation<\/a> in Bex, before travelling to Japan at the end of the month for an important tour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The artistic collaboration and deep, sincere friendship between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/company\/maurice-bejart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maurice B\u00e9jart<\/a> and Pierre Henry have left their mark on history. This is reflected in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/ballet\/symphonie-pour-un-homme-seul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Symphonie pour un homme seul<\/em><\/a> (1955), B\u00e9jartian style\u2019s seminal work, featured as the concluding piece of this new program in the company&#8217;s repertoire on a score by Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry. For the opening night, BBL seeks its resonance by relying on the dramatic structure of <em>Variations pour une porte et un soupir<\/em>, a ballet created in Brussels in 1965 to the music of Pierre Henry. The score is performed by the Citypercussion group: the original version is merely echoed in a few sounds and integrated sound effects, mixed into fifteen new compositions played on stage. The plot: seven dancers enter the stage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second piece of the evening&#8217;s program still remains a search for form. For the launch of the Brooklyn Academy season in New York in 1970, Maurice B\u00e9jart caused a sensation when he presented <em>La porte<\/em>: a pointe solo set for Ma\u00efna Gielgud to the music of four of <em>Variations pour une porte et un soupir<\/em>. In this part, Gil Roman challenges the concept of identity by giving the role to a male dancer of his company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/danseur-euse\/leroy-mokgatle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leroy Mokgatle<\/a>, for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The program returns to its origins by ending with <em>Symphonie pour un homme seul<\/em>, sixteen years after its last performance at the M\u00e9tropole Theatre in Lausanne. This ballet was premiered in Paris before a sparse audience on July 26, 1955, bringing to light a choreographer whose singular personality and talent would revolutionize the art of ballet. This first autobiography of a young choreographer giving free rein to his aspirations is the result of an impromptu meeting between the choreographer and the two co-composers of the &#8220;Symphony&#8221;, the original work.
