{"id":32671,"date":"2022-02-14T11:01:10","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T10:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/?p=32671"},"modified":"2022-02-14T11:01:10","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T10:01:10","slug":"the-bbl-triumphs-at-the-opera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/the-bbl-triumphs-at-the-opera\/","title":{"rendered":"The BBL triumphs at the Op\u00e9ra"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The B\u00e9jart Ballet Lausanne triumphs at the Op\u00e9ra<\/h2>\n<h4>&#8220;<em>Alors on danse<\/em>&#8230; !&#8221;, the mixed program presented by the B\u00e9jart Ballet Lausanne&#8217;s Director at the Op\u00e9ra de Lausanne, received a warm welcome from the audience. Close to 3,000\u00a0 spectators gave a standing ovation to the four ballets performed by the company. The program for the three nights included the latest choreographic work by the BBL&#8217;s Artistic Director (who also gave the title to the evening), <em>Les Chaises<\/em>, by Maurice B\u00e9jart, performed by the famous prima ballerina Alessandra Ferri and Gil Roman, <em>Bye bye baby blackbird<\/em>, a creation by guest choreographer Joost Vrouenraets, and Maurice B\u00e9jart&#8217;s <em>Firebird<\/em>.<\/h4>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lightness provides the apprentice learning how to be a man with a very precious tool, a new force that can dynamite men\u2026&#8221;, wrote Alexandre Jollien in <em>Le m\u00e9tier des hommes<\/em> (2002). So\u2026 let\u2019s dance! For three performances from February 11 to 13, the audience filled every seat of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opera-lausanne.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Op\u00e9ra de Lausanne<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/company\/gil-roman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gil Roman<\/a> was given carte blanche by Eric Vigi\u00e9, the host of the event, to create a program dedicated to pleasure, sharing, and lightness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Alors on danse&#8230; !<\/em>\u00a0the latest creation of the\u00a0BBL&#8217;s Artistic Director, opens the evening with a series of variations using the classical technique, in particular pointe work, which has shaped his last months of choreographic research. This demanding sequence of compositions was created for &#8220;the pleasure of dancing&#8221; and gives his dancers the material to express themselves in a passionate and sensual way. Gil Roman dedicates this delight of the senses to Patrick Dupond, an iconic artist who died last\u00a0year and\u00a0who was able to emphasize it each time he was on stage. The audience was not disappointed and welcomed this first ballet with a huge ovation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next came <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/ballet\/les-chaises\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Les Chaises<\/em><\/a> according to Ionesco, a theatrical ballet created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/company\/maurice-bejart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maurice Bejart<\/a> in 1981 for Laura Proen\u00e7a and himself, which was later performed by Marcia Haydee and John Neumeier. After a first successful revival in Japan last summer, the internationally renowned prima ballerina Alessandra Ferri and Gil Roman, two artists at the peak of their art, once again played this pathetic and beautiful old couple at the end of a life of faded glory. \u201cDying is nothing, but getting old&#8230;\u201d The last dreams of these young teenagers lost on an imaginary island, their last impulses and steps outlined with grace so light and moving that the theater was shaken.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the second part, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/guest\/guest-choreographers\/joost-vrouenraets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joost Vrouenraets<\/a> presented<em> Bye bye baby blackbird,<\/em> a piece he created for the company following Gil Roman&#8217;s invitation. This is the second collaboration (after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/ballet\/ex-orbis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Ex Orbis<\/em><\/a> in 2009) with the Dutch choreographer. \u201cBye bye\u201d is a signature choreographic piece set to Johnny Cash\u2019s music.\u00a0 This is an intimate dialogue of darkness and light. It questions impermanence and tries to anticipate the echoes of physical presence (and absence) through movement. It bears witness to their intense ties as the last flight approaches&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What better conclusion to this program than <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/ballet\/loiseau-de-feu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Firebird<\/a>, <\/em>in a fiery interpretation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bejart.ch\/en\/ballet\/loiseau-de-feu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leroy Mokgatle<\/a>? A piece directed by Maurice B\u00e9jart in 1970 on Igor Stravinsky&#8217;s music.
