This landmark work by Maurice Béjart was warmly received by a large and enthusiastic audience attending this new series of performances.

Inspired by the journeys of great travellers such as Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta, La Route de la soie traces a vast path across civilizations, from Venice to China via Turkey, Iran, India and Mongolia. Throughout the epic journey of the Traveller, portrayed by Antoine Le Moal, a succession of scenes unfolds, bringing together historical, spiritual and symbolic figures in a work of remarkable choreographic and visual richness. Enhanced by Mari Ohashi’s portrayal of Silk, this poetic journey weaves a delicate thread between cultures, eras and imaginations.

From the very first moments, the audience at Théâtre de Beaulieu was drawn into this monumental work, warmly applauding the performers at the end of the performance.

Under the artistic direction of Julien Favreau, this revival forms part of an ongoing commitment to preserving and transmitting Maurice Béjart’s repertoire. The reconstruction of the work required extensive artistic preparation, enriched by the memory and experience of former dancers who took part in the original creation and who are now members of the artistic team.

The strength of the ensemble scenes, the commitment of the performers, the richness of the costumes and the immersive scenography combine to make this work a true journey through cultures and imaginations. The musical score accompanies this voyage with a remarkable diversity of colours and influences.

With this revival, Béjart Ballet Lausanne continues its commitment to preserving and transmitting Maurice Béjart’s choreographic legacy, while offering audiences the opportunity to rediscover one of the most significant works in his repertoire.

La Route de la soie is being performed at Théâtre de Beaulieu until 14 June 2026.

La Route de la soie premiered Last Night: Béjart Ballet Lausanne Brings a Major Maurice Béjart Work Back to Life at Théâtre de Beaulieu.
