Opening the evening, Bye bye baby blackbird by Dutch choreographer Joost Vrouenraets, guest artist with the company, directly addresses the theme of impending loss, drawing inspiration from the raw and haunting voice of Johnny Cash.
With intense, uncompromising movement, this creation dives into the raw emotions of absence, through a non-linear narrative and a constant tension between light and shadow.
In the second part, Dionysos (Suite) — a legendary ballet created by Maurice Béjart in 1984 — leads us into a celebration of the body and its metamorphoses.
Conceived as an evocation of Dionysos, God of theatre, ecstasy and creative chaos, this piece draws on percussive rhythms, tribal energy and dramatic tension. A captivating fresco at the crossroads of the sacred and the wild. A visceral journey into the heart of human instinct, carried by the collective power of the company.
These ballets represent a dialogue between contemporary creation and choreographic heritage, carried by the strength of the collective and true to the vision of Julien Favreau, Artistic Director of the BBL, who aims to highlight Maurice Béjart’s legacy while opening the stage to bold and relevant contemporary works.
