Born in Croatia, Valentina Turcu studied at the Ecole-atelier Rudra Béjart Lausanne before joining the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, under the direction of the company’s founder, Maurice Béjart.
With over 140 ballet, theatre, and opera productions to her credit as a dancer, choreographer, and stage director, she is currently serving as resident choreographer at the Slovene National Theatre Maribor Ballet.
Her choreographic writings exhibit intense expression, precision, and a distinctive style, reflecting her high aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from various grand narratives of our times, Turcu’s creations exhibit proverbial and musical perfectionism, making her a prolific artist who has redefined the genre of dramatic ballet to the highest degree.
Her most notable creations: Carmen, Romeo & Juliet, Dangerous Liaisons, Onegin, Death in Venice, Lady of the Camellias, and Madame Bovary, express her precious sense of theatre, unique sensual poetry, and ethical cosmopolitanism, convincingly representing the deepest psychological states and eternal dilemmas of human civilization.
Her new creation for the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Hamlet, premiered in June 2024 in Lausanne.
