La Route de la soie
Maurice Béjart

Guided by the spirit of the great traveller somewhere between Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta the show sweeps audiences from the shores of Venice to the far reaches of China, journeying through the captivating lands of Turkey, Iran, India and Mongolia. Each stage unfolds with its own colour, atmosphere and language, weaving a danced odyssey in which poets, roses, shamans and enchantresses converge.

Carried by the Venetian music of Vivaldi, the Turkish sounds of Kudsi Erguner and influences drawn from across the Orient, this richly layered work interweaves ancient traditions with the unmistakable Béjart spirit. A succession of tableaux, painted in the full colours of the rainbow, sees dance turn by turn spiritual, theatrical and intensely expressive. Dazzling costumes  among them those designed by Versace for the Chinese tableau , sculpted movement and a teeming imagination together compose a sensory journey of rare richness.

This La Route de la Soie invites audiences to travel with the Béjart Ballet Lausanne to the place where Maurice Béjart‘s spirit resonated most deeply: at the crossroads of the great civilisations.
