Opening the evening, 7 danses grecques, set to music by Mikis Theodorakis, celebrates the profound soul of Greece. “A ballet in which Greece, according to the Greeks themselves, is all the more present because borrowings from folklore are minimal…,” Maurice Béjart once remarked. Created in 1983, this work is a true gem, demanding from its performers an absolute mastery of classical technique combined with a radiant, solar energy.
In the second part of the evening, The Firebird, choreographed to the music of Igor Stravinsky, embodies the power of rebirth. In the choreographer’s own words: “The Firebird is the Phoenix rising from its ashes. The bird of life and joy, immortal, whose splendour and strength remain indestructible and eternal.”
The evening concludes with the iconic Boléro, set to Maurice Ravel’s hypnotic score. Suspended between collective trance and a fascinating crescendo, this mythical ballet remains one of the most universal and emblematic works in the Béjart Ballet Lausanne repertoire
