CANCELLATON | The Ninth Symphony| Tokyo

It is with great regret that the Ballet Holiday in Ueno no Mori Organizing Committee and the Japan Performing Arts Foundation (NBS) have announced the cancellation of The Ninth Symphony’s performances at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo in April-May 2021. The event organizers have made their best efforts to make the performances possible, but unfortunately were forced to cancel the event due to the ongoing pandemic.

The unpredictability of immigration restrictions due to the current sanitary situation unables to guarantee the good running of performances of this scale. The Ninth Symphony – choreographed by Maurice Béjart, initially scheduled in May 2020 then postponed to this spring, aimed to bring together The Tokyo Ballet, the Bejart Ballet Lausanne, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Opera Choir, under the direction of Toshiaki Umeda.

The Ballet Holiday in Ueno no Mori Organizing Committee and The Japan Performing Arts Foundation thank the valued audience for their kind understanding and continued support.
