After 12 years away, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne makes its long-awaited return to the city of Marseille, on the stage of the Opéra de Marseille.

On January 30 and 31, 2027, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne returns to Marseille—the city where Maurice Béjart was born and raised—for two exceptional evenings at the Opéra de Marseille, as part of the anniversary season celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth and the company’s 40th anniversary. The program features works entirely by Maurice Béjart, two of which will be accompanied by an orchestra for this special occasion.

The evening will open with 7 Danses Grecques, set to music by Mikis Theodorakis. Created in 1983, this work pays tribute to the soul of Greece with a deeply radiant energy, blending technical demands and vitality in a ballet of great purity.

It will continue with The Firebird, set to music by Igor Stravinsky, performed live by an orchestra. Far from the traditional tale, Béjart reinvents the myth: the Firebird becomes a symbol of revolt, rebirth and freedom, carried by an intense choreographic language in which the group and the individual confront and transcend one another.

The evening will close with Boléro, set to the spellbinding music of Maurice Ravel, also performed by a live orchestra. A soloist, a red table, dancers, and an inexorable crescendo. One of Maurice Béjart’s most iconic works, at once hypnotic and collective.
