From July 23 to 26, as part of the Artists at the Center program, the company will be invited to perform at New York City Center, one of the most prestigious stages in New York. These performances are part of an exceptional gala dedicated to étoile Hugo Marchand, a leading figure on the international dance scene.
On this occasion, Béjart Ballet Lausanne will perform The Firebird, a powerful and incandescent ballet set to the music of Igor Stravinsky. In this work, Maurice Béjart reinvents the myth through a deeply contemporary vision: far from the traditional tale, the Firebird becomes a figure of revolt and transformation, a symbol of vital energy, rebirth, and freedom. Driven by an intense and collective choreographic language, the ballet unfolds an almost tribal force, where the group and the individual confront and transcend one another.
The evening will continue with Boléro, one of the choreographer’s most iconic masterpieces. Set to Maurice Ravel’s mesmerizing score, this hypnotic piece will feature—at the center of the red table, in the context of this gala—Hugo Marchand, surrounded by 18 dancers from the company. Repetition, precision, and surrender intertwine in a choreographic construction of rare intensity, making Boléro an experience that is at once sensual, collective, and universal. The rest of the program for this event can be found on the New York City Center website.
This invitation marks a significant moment for Béjart Ballet Lausanne, which continues to expand its international presence by bringing Maurice Béjart’s living legacy to the world’s greatest stages.
