Wien Wien, nur du Allein, a choreography by Maurice Béjart was danced for the first time by Gil Roman‘s company at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in December 2022. This return to Beaulieu after a three-year closure will go down in the company’s annals. For the tremendous success, but also for its artistic record. Created in 1982 by the Ballet du XXe Siècle as a preview at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, one month before its world premiere at the Châtelet in Paris, Wien, Wien, nur du Allein is one of Maurice Béjart’s most outstanding works: a composition of great choreographic richness and precision that Gil Roman has endeavoured to reassemble with the rigour of a Swiss watchmaker, with a fresh eye.

This issue of Cadanse also presents the Carte blanche given to photographer Anoush Abrar, “my aim was to make these dancers desirable. They are all so beautiful! I had to find a way to make this dimension close to fantasy. The question was how to arouse the desire of these bodies, these intelligences, these artists”.
