Wien, Wien, nur du Allein by Maurice Béjart at the Cirque Royal in Brussels

The Béjart Ballet Lausanne will revive Maurice Béjart’s ballet Wien, Wien, nur du Allein at the Cirque Royal in Brussels from March 21 to 24, 2024. The public is invited to this double event forty years after it was first performed in Brussels by the Ballet du XXe Siècle!  This piece of great choreographic value will be presented in a new set designed by Magali Baud, returning to the stage where it was born!

Wien, Wien, nur du Allein had never been danced entirely by the Béjart Ballet Lausanne – except for a few fragments in November 2004 at the Cirque Royal – until its revival by Gil Roman at the Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne in December 2022 – for the 50th anniversary of Maurice Béjart’s company.

The ballet’s choreographic depth and richness, as well as its dense musical construction, justify the piece’s revival, especially since current events give it a special meaning.

The score is set to music from the Vienna School, including Strauss, Schoenberg, Haydn, Webern, Schubert, Heuberger, Mozart, Mayer, Beethoven and Alban Berg. Wien, Wien, nur du Allein is probably one of Maurice Béjart’s most important works.
