The season draws to an end!

The season draws to an end!

The 39 dancers of the Béjart Ballet have travelled 27,122 km across 5 countries and 20 cities, performing 53 times one of the 12 ballets of the 2022-2023 program. They wrapped up the season last night at the Roman Amphitheatre in Martigny and will return from their break on September 19 in Timișoara then on September 30 in Mézières…

The 22-23 season kicked off on September 14, 2022 at the Teatro Regio in Turin and ended last night in Martigny, after the company’s second performance in the Roman Amphitheater that Léonard Gianadda loved so much. The program included Alors on danse… ! choreographed by the company’s Artistic Director Gil Roman, The Firebird and Maurice Béjart‘s Bolero: three of the 12 ballets performed this season by the BBL’s 39 dancers in front of 66,350 people in 20 cities across 5 countries!

The company’s 36th season featured ballets from Maurice Béjart’s repertoire (7 danses grecques; Quatre préludes pour violoncelle; Liebe und Tod; Bhakti III; The Firebird; Ballet for Life; Bolero) and Gil Roman’s (Tous les hommes presque toujours s’imaginent; Alors on danse… ! ). This season’s highlights include the “premiere” of Wien, Wien, nur du Allein by Maurice Béjart last December at the Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne, a ballet created in 1982 at the Cirque Royal in Brussels (the BBL had never danced the full version), and The other song of dance, a piece presented last June at Beaulieu by the Japanese choreographer Yuka Oishi, inspired by her reading of Maurice Béjart’s book of the same name.

The Béjart Ballet Lausanne will return to its studios on August 14. The first performance of the 2023-2024 season is scheduled for September 19 in Timișoara, followed by a carte blanche at Théâtre du Jorat in Mézières on September 30 (Basso Continuum by Gil Roman, Bye bye baby blackbird by Joost Vrouenraets and The Firebird by Maurice Béjart). The next stops will be Bari, Zurich and Athens, among many others.

In the meantime, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne wishes their loyal audience a wonderful summer!
